Calling – Matthew (Luke 5:27-32)
‘Think of the family’ -
My mother’s refrain -
Reminding me repeatedly
No good Jewish boy
Should do
What I do.
But it was the family
I thought of
With mouths to feed
And no honest work
To be found.
So I endured the shame.
Little did either of us know
I was about to be a part
Of an even greater scandal.
