Blessed are the merciful (Matthew 5:1-12)

I know it’s the right thing to do.

To let it go, to pray blessing,

To give mercy

Even if it is not deserved

Or even looked for.

I’m not there yet, God.

I’m still nursing my hurt

Like a sick child

And holding my anger

Like a shield.

Help me to remember

That I stand

At the foot of your cross

In need of the mercy

That I need you

To help me give.
