Why sit still?

Updated: Mar 5, 2021

One of my most respected tutors in college used to start class with a couple of minutes silence when we were invited to sit still - "in order" he would tell us, "to let our souls catch up with our bodies".

In a context in which we are urged to move to be fit, where we are expected to be busy to be significant, where we find we have to keep active just to get through all that needs to be done - where and how do we pay attention to our souls - our souls' health, our souls' condition.

Lent is a good time to pay atention; to make a discompline of sitting still for a few moments to let our souls catch up with our bodies and see what God does as a result.
