Thomas was not there when Jesus came.


And understandably, he was not convinced.

I wonder if he felt bit cheated; they had all had this marvelous experience and he had missed out.

So, when Jesus turns up, what does he think? The others get to share boiled fish, breakfast on the beach, special moments.

He gets a view of bloody hands and a wounded side.

Nice.

Of course, it is what he asked for.

Because if this is just a fairy tale that says none of the hurt means anything, then he is not interested.

Neither am I. It only makes sense if it includes the hurts, the wounds, the scars on the body of humanity.

Thank God it does.
