On Wednesday, we go to Bethany.

Updated: Mar 5, 2021

Then Jesus went to Bethany and a woman anointed his head.

So, Jesus is entirely comfortable with accepting devotion, and being put in the spotlight, and protecting those who are criticised.

He refuses the scapegoating that the disciples want to produce; she could have used this for the poor, “then we would all feel better”.

More than that, he tells them to leave her alone, and that “she has done what she could”.

Who do I use to make me feel better?

What love do I reject - giving or receiving - because it scandalises accepted notions?

Will I trust that “doing what I can” is enough – or do I need to feel omnipotent?
