Today I see something new.

I see a light which is too bright to be defeated by the dark, love too beautiful to be defeated by violence, life too alive to stay locked in a tomb.

I see resurrection.....

March 31, 2018

I see a closed tomb.

I see no hope.

I see a world without meaning.

I see the dark.

March 30, 2018

I see a man on a cross.

I see outstretched arms and a broken heart.

I see grief and abandonment.

I see the horror of violence and an innocent victim.

I see love I cannot name.

I see a man sharing bread and wine. He talks about life and hope and betrayal.

They all look worried. “Is it I".

And the answer in them all is “yes". I can see it in their eyes.

Just as I see the recognition, acceptance and forgiveness in his.

I see the bread, broken and in pieces.

I see the wine, red as blood.

I see one leave and go to his act of betrayal.

And I see that even when somebody sets out to betray the Kingdom, the Kingdom...

I see a man with ointment all over his feet. I see a woman with a broken jar and her hair in a mess.

I see those around with sour faces – they don't like what they see – the waste, the extravagance

I see her joy and grief. I see his acceptance. I see their confusion.

They want to give the money to the poor; you know – those ones over there who are not us.

I see her recognising that he is one of those ones over there, and she canno...

I see a man arguing with those in power. He seems to have got them worried, but I'm nit sure why. They're the ones who know what they're doing, and he seems to be making it up ad he goes along. They can quote chapter and verse, refer to the authorities, take their place in the controversies. He just asserts- asserts God is good, love is supreme, details can be worked out as we go along, evil is defeated....

But they don't seem...

Today, I see a man take a whip to the traders in the temple. There is chaos and confusion. There are shouts and protests.

I see him stand his ground and tell them they are wrong, tell them they are shutting out those who are supposed to be allowed in.

I see them get angry. There is nowhere for them to hide, and he will not stop.

I see he is in danger. I see that he counts that danger as less important than people being allowed in...

Today I see a man on a donkey

It's a ridiculous sight. The donkey is really too small to carry him, his feet drag on the ground.

And there are branches and cloaks, the crowd is cheering and the children are running wild.

What's it about?

He's been out and about the last few years, teaching, healing, setting the countryside by the ears.

He's certainly been successful in building up support. Most of it from those who don’t know any b...

On Wednesday, he visited the home of his friends.. And Mary anointed him.

Mary recognised him and knew something was going on - and she wanted to do something...

So, she brought out the ointment an anointed him

It was scandalous, and beautiful and amazing....

And Jesus welcomed her gift, and challenged those who might object, and named her as one whose story will be told, wherever the gospel is announced.

And we are left with the...

On Tuesday, he talked about the Kingdom - about being in it, and about missing out. It made them uncomfortable, because it challenged age-old assumptions about in-ness and out-ness; patterns established by religion, by tradition, by assumptions that were so deeply rooted that questioning them never occurred to anybody.

Knowing who is in and who is out matters in our kind of society - who is allowed into the country, who should...
